The Rationals- Respect (1966)

D: Rumour has it that Jerry Wexler, head of Atlantic, was inspired to have Aretha Franklin cover ‘Respect’ after hearing this version by The Rationals, more so than Otis Redding’s version.  Also, the band was taught this tune through Jeep Holland’s collection of R&B records. Thus supporting my argument that people with good record collections make the world a better place. “Jeep Holland’s Ann Arbor label and agency A-Square was the flashpoint for the late 1960s Detroit rock revolution.”
