Lulu’s Marble- I Feel Alright, a cover of The Stooges, off their album ‘Love Rock’ (1994)
D: The Stooges, ‘I Feel Alright’, also known as ‘1970’, is off of their Fun House release in 1970. This is my favourite cover I’ve heard; other notable mentions include The Damned’s version off of their 1977 debut, Damed, Damned, Damned.
Lulu’s Marble (ルルーズ·マーブル) are:
Akko—vocal & guitar (Sadly, Akko died in February 1999)
Toshie—bass & background vocal
Miwa—drums
Oka—organ & background vocal
“Four young Japanese women kicking out some classics in a ruthless garage mode. This powerful, rockin’ band’s signature is the background screaming (nearly every song). I swear, it doesn’t get better, or wilder, or crazier than this! Technically, they could be better, which only proves how totally unnecessary that would be. The whole band’s great, and there’s a definite SONICS influence in the way they pound these songs out like they own them all!”
Tarheel Slim & Little Ann - Much Too Late (1959)
D: Little Ann sure did sing the sentiments I wanted to share with a lost love whom was clawing at my door this time last year… A year later, still love the song and am glad to have let it be a part of my soundtrack.
Ruth Brown- As Long As I’m Moving (1954)
Fun Female Fact: Blanche Calloway, Cab Calloway’s sister, also a bandleader, arranged a gig for Brown at a Washington, D.C. nightclub called Crystal Caverns and soon became her manager.
Lee Hazlewood & Ann-Margret - You turn my head around (1969)
Sandra Sanger & The Steps “Everyone Wants To Go To
Heaven” (Singapore, 1968)
Bernadette Carroll - Party Girl - 1964
irma thomas - time is on my side (1964) Considered “The Soul Queen of New Orleans”.
